ACTIVITIES

 
Since its establishment, the organization has conducted a number of Activities including the followings:

 

1. Career talks on the computer profession for students in over 20 secondary schools   

2. Computer training for journalists in a number of states      

3. Public lectures in various institutions of higher learning

4. Publishing a quarterly newsletter, the CompuLiteracy News (since 1997)

5. Computer appreciation seminar for members of the Kano Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA)      

6. Computer appreciation and training for the staff of Kano State Library Board (July 1999)

7.  Participated in the African Development Forum on the Challenges to Africa of Globalization and the Information, organized by UNECA in Addis Ababa, October, 1999

8. SchoolNet Sensitization seminar for secondary school teachers (December, 1999)

9. E-commerce sensitization seminar for members of the business community in Kano under KACCIMA in May 2001

10.  Participated at the ABANTU African Policy Forum on Gender and ICTs in Africa as Resource Organization (April 2001)

11.  Serve as resource organization, presenting a paper on Priority Issues in the use of the Internet for the Promotion of Democracy and Open Society in Nigeria at the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) Consultation Forum on the Needs Assessment (May 2001)

12.  Organized an IT exhibition for the Kano State Ministry of Education (2001)

13.  Assisted in the drafting of the Kano State Draft Policy on IT (2001)

14.  Printing of public awareness campaign materials such as stickers, leaflets, greeting cards and posters

15.  IT appreciation seminar for Lawyers in Kano (April 2002)

16.  Donated books on computer and IT to the Kano State Library Board (May 2002)

17.  Secured and awarded 125 IT training scholarships at the Hands-on Institute for Information Technology (HIIT), Kano as part of a private sector-NGO partnership programme (2002)

18.  Computer Training for public secondary school teachers in Kano State under the Learn and Teach Others (LATO) scheme since 2002 (four batches of over 60 teachers have so far benefited)

19.  Publishing of an online newsletter- News on ICTs in Nigeria since October 2002

 

20.  Conducted a survey on the use of ICTs by civil society groups in Nigeria (2002/2003)

21.  Trained 94 Voter Registration Exercise Monitors in Jigawa State for the 2002 Voter Registration exercise (August 2002)

22.  Monitored the Voter Registration exercise in Jigawa State as part of the Transition Monitoring Group (TMG) in September 2002

23.  Conducted a survey on IT Trade and Business in Northern Nigeria (2003)

24.  Conducted a three-month IT training for women in collaboration with the Women Health and Development Network (WHADNET), January-March, 2003

25.  Hosted a meeting of civil society organizations to consider putting up a proposal for the World Bank Country Gateway Project (March 2003)

26.  Trained 212 monitors for the monitoring of the 2003 general elections in Jigawa State (April 2003)

27.  Conducted Voter education and election monitoring forums in 18 local governments in Jigawa State (April 2003)

28.  Coordinated the monitoring of the 2003 general elections in Jigawa State (April;/May 2003)

29.  Coordinated the Baseline Study commissioned by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in Northern Nigeria (April/May 2003)

30.  Secured and awarded 300 training scholarships for the year 2003/2004 from four computer training schools in Kano (May/June 2003 and August/September 2003)

31.  Running a computer training outreach programme at Hauwa Community College, Funtua, Katsina for teachers and other members of the community in Funtua every Saturday in conjunction with the Pan African Development Education and Advocacy Project (PADEAP)

32.  Conducted a training programme for NGOs in Kano on how to use ICTs for their work (April 2003). Partnered with AITEC for a Low Cost Website Hosting programme (five organizations have so far taken advantage of it).

33. Trained 212 Election monitors in Jigawa State for the monitoring of the 2003 elections in Nigeria.

34. Hosted a meeting of Civil Society Groups to consider putting up proposal for the Country Gateway Project (March 29, 2003)
 

35.Coordinating an IT Baseline study in the north west and north east zone of the country as part of the Study commissioned by the National Inforamtion Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

36. Conducting IT training for Women groups in Kano.

37. Training for the Management Staff of the Kano State Library Board on IT and Library Automation (December 2004)

38. Internet Training for the Staff of the Kano State History and Culture Bureau in partnership with British Council, Kano (January 20004)

39. Conducting GSM Consumer Satisfaction Survey for the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) (February 2004)
